In First Bones, a prequel to Reichs's first novel, Deja Dead, she at last reveals the tale of how Tempe became a forensic anthropologist. In this never-before-published story, Tempe recalls the case that lured from a promising career in academia into the grim but addictive world of criminal investigation. The collection is rounded out with three more stories that take Tempe from the low country of the Florida Everglades, where she makes a grisly discovery in the stomach of an eighteen-foot Burmese python, to the heights of Mount Everest, where a frozen corpse is unearthed. No matter where she goes, Tempe's cases make for the most gripping reading.

Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs, 278 pages

This is another book in the Temperance Brennan series that also spun off the television series "Bones" that is popular. This one takes place in South Carolina and features NASCAR as the backdrop for the mystery. A body is found in a drum of asphalt and there are a couple of different options of whose body it can be. Through in a possible FBI coverup, a bad cop, and poison, and all in all, it's a normal week for Temperance.
These have gotten a little formulaic but are still enjoyable. I do find myself comparing it to the tv show a lot though while reading.

Virals by Kathy Reichs, 454 pages

Kathy Reichs is best known for her mystery novels featuring Temperance Brennan and the tv show Bones from her books. She has started a new teen series featuring Tory Brennan. Tory is a fourteen-year-old girl living with the father she just discovered after her mother died in a car accident. Living on a island with a tiny population of scientists, she has made friends with 3 other teens. Her and the 3 boys spend time exploring the local area. When they break a dog/wolf puppy out of a lab, they quickly find themselves smack dab in the middle of a conspiracy needing investigating. Exposed to something that is changing them, these 4 teens must find out what is happening to them and what a decades old murder of a teenage girl has to do with it.
I have read all of Kathy Reichs' books and am a big fan. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this new teen series but it was great. I can't wait to read the next one featuring these teens. This is definitely Maximum Ride meets Bones.
