Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers, 549 pages

This had been read and reviewed by numerous staff members, so it's been on my read list for a while. I always start to feel bad for the books that sit there on the list, just waiting for their turn, some of them for years.
Ismae has always been an outcast, marked by scars that show her as a daughter of Death. Given in marriage to a crude pig farmer by her abusive father, Ismae manages to escape her wedding night and make her way to the convent of St. Mortain, where she is trained to become a handmaiden of Death, handing out his will. She becomes an avid student, ready to show her devotion. As a final test before her final vows, Ismae must go to court and help look for a traitor. To do so Ismae must pose as the mistress of Gavriel Duval, who quickly starts to gain a place in heart. Ismae must decide which is more important, her heart or her devotion to Death?

Pegasus by Robin McKinley, 404 pages

Princess Sylviianel's country has held their alliance with the pegasi by forming alliances with them on the human's twelfth birthday. Using magician speakers is the only way generally for them to be able to communicate with each other, that is until Sylvi and her pegasus Ebon. They can speak to each other in a way that threatens all that holds the Alliance together, and some of the magicians can't let that happen.
Robin McKinley always does a great job of taking fairytales or fantasy stories and tweaking them into a new and interesting take. My main disappointment with this book was coming to the end and realizing that it wasn't the entire story.

Game by Barry Lyga, 520 pages

This is the sequel to "I Hunt Killers" and it's been a long wait for it to come out. This book features Jasper called to New York City to help track down a serial killer while dealing with his father's escape from prison. This book is filled with lots of action, suspense, and relatively little blood and gore for a book featuring serial killers. Barry Lyga has created an amazing teen series that has proven to be a must read for adults. Now it's another long wait until the next book comes out.
